Nothing things can be described as an action, behavior or invention which has no benefit to the earth and everyone on it, but may still benefit the individual possibly to their own and/or others detriment. It is often a subject that is met with a lot of resentment because it hits our own values and behavioral patterns.

Other beings on the planet live in an objective reality, they can describe food, water, shelter, rain, presence of predators to each other but they cannot describe animal rights, human rights, metaphysics, law, fame, money, banks, government, fashion, women's rights, minorities rights and so on. That's our job, even though we also live in this world of objective reality we have this parallel reality which can describe all the fictions already mentioned.

I can cautiously say that without some of these fictions we possibly could not have our current system. A system, that offers a certain degree of safety and security, i.e.Some people having a place to live and have police protect them to a certain degree from, what normal people call, criminals, (which we know are created by their environment through the previous posts.) Have an educational system which allows people to learn about different things like diseases, cures, viruses, solar power, wind power, tidal power, etc. A transportation system that takes us from one edge of the world to the other. A medical system which allows you to get access to medical help. However inefficient or efficient you might think your country is with these systems, they exist. Dismissing their presence would be ignorant and arrogant on my part.

We have now discovered that actions, behavior and inventions unrelated to the betterment of society as a whole and the restoration of the planet to as near a natural state as possible, is somehow starting to slow down human progress. Let's explore this statement.

The 1,050 m Azerbaijan Tower in Baku, Azerbaijan which if built, will be the world's tallest building in the world; it will be 222 m higher than the current tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE which is 828 m. This will only spark the interest to make an even taller building rather than a more efficient building. “Will this bring architectural enthusiasts to the site, in the form of tourism?” Yes, if you spend time learning more about the physical world and the sciences used with human concern, you possibly could come to the conclusion that the building itself doesn't give you tools for the betterment of society as a whole but a select few. Unless it is a building that can generate power through wind or solar power. Using this power to power most if not the whole city and reduce fossil based energy consumption along with electrical bills for the general population and providing greener energy would make the building a “something thing.”

Through this method of thinking we might arrive to the question,”why not make all buildings this way?” The answer a minister of finance will give you is, “well it costs money.” A poor person who lives in a tin shack will tell you,”I can’t even afford a normal home.” Money seems to be the speed bump to progress in this and many more cases which will be discussed in the future.

At this point an economist might say,”well the demand brings about the supply.” if we apply law 1 of the 4 basic laws of supply and demand (found in the table below) then if demand for a better way of managing the available earths resources increases and supply of “something things”remain unchanged, a shortage in the quality of life of the general population occurs, and also leading to a higher scarcity of the necessities of life on earth. This is turn has consequences such as increasing in greenhouse gases, shortage of food which increases crime, contamination of the air and water supply, which of course all cause a reduction in the health of the general population. I would say there is definitely a demand since we are seeing these factors already.

The four basic laws of supply and demand are:

If demand increases and supply remains unchanged, a shortage occurs, leading to a higher equilibrium price.
If demand decreases and supply remains unchanged, a surplus occurs, leading to a lower equilibrium price.
If demand remains unchanged and supply increases, a surplus occurs, leading to a lower equilibrium price.
If demand remains unchanged and supply decreases, a shortage occurs, leading to a higher equilibrium price.

Of course this view may seem like we don’t take into account the effort placed by the architects involved, the years of studying, sacrifices made, their experience level and even possibly people that died in the building of such structures. It is not so, if you make a building for the sake of making a building and earning an income, that doesn't make it a “something thing.”I am sorry about that. If you use that knowledge to make a floating hospital that goes to different parts of the world which need urgent medical attention, (example, after a natural disaster.) Than this is a ”something thing.” But building the tallest building in the world creates profit for a select few, which is of commercial value, and it becomes a symbol. What type of symbol does it represent though, profit? Ego? Nationalism?

“Nothing thing” means, nothing to the majority of people. In other words after a natural disaster, standing in front of a camera saying, my heartfelt condolences to the people in Indonesia after a tsunami doesn’t feed and house the people, it doesn’t create new methods to stop tsunamis from causing insurmountable damage. The word’s don’t do anything unless they are used to provide suggestions for a better system. Holding a person’s hand after they have been shot in the leg and losing a lot of blood saying,”I am really sorry that this has happened to you, you will be alright,” is of itself a“nothing thing.” If you help the injured person lie down, elevate the leg remove any dirt or debris from the wound and get a clean cloth or sterile bandage to press on the wound. Then go and call an ambulance, this would be a,”something thing.” You can then use any placebo to help the person calm down from the shock factor of being shot.

Inventing a way to use less water and using it in your house only is a “nothing thing.” You know what you have, but unless it’s given to the rest of the population this will not help conserve water around the world. The answer you get after this is,”If I give my ideas away then people will patent them and prevent me from using them or charge me to repair and/or buy my own product. Money seems to be a“nothing thing.” It is not money that we need, it’s access to available resources which will contribute to all of us.

Does something always have to be a ”something thing” if it’s not you are slowing down progress. When I refer to progress I mean in the direction which could restore nature to as near a natural state as possible, and provide the necessities of life's to all people. Clean air, clean water, a healthy diet, safety, security, medical care that is focused on the improvement of health rather than profit, a relevant education which helps achieve the above mentioned and more. This will allow people to explore,”uncharted waters” and try to understand the new discoveries through the scientific method, rather than trial and error.

I often wonder as to why we have to be exposed to the opinions of famous people, either through television, magazines, and quotes on social media who are not famous for advancing humanity but being part of stupefying it. To mention a few: Actors, singers, dancers (unless they are advocating a saner social direction on their free time,) are not in any way advancing society towards a saner future but only perpetuating the same old values which were never relevant to a society that is booming with more relevant information.

Although some attempt to do patch work on their free time,example: charity. The same old values they support either through the movies they act in or songs they sing, give the same old problems which created the need for charity in the first place. Freedom to express your opinion helps a lot of informed opinions to get out there, but along with it, the very uninformed. Filtering them out of the education system and upbringing should be seen as a societal obligation if we wish to see any human progress. The opinions of these cerebral insufficients are of no value to society.

As I discuss in my post about purpose, we give purpose to our lives. Currently we are engaged in"nothing things" in order to attempt to momentarily escape from a society filled with unnecessary suffering on many levels. Intoxication, laying on the beach for hours on end under a baking sun, expressing oneself through tattoos which are just ink, vandalism and extreme fashion. Buying material goods which are meant to help the mental state, labeling the act as "shopping therapy."

People who benefit out of this system, "fame and fortune," do not want a change in mentality because it would render them obsolete. Supporting the system gives them the upper hand or fulfill their low self esteem. When we admire someone we would have to wonder what we admire them for, if it is their hard work and determination towards a goal this is a,”something thing.” If it’s for their tattoos, which monitor your health (research Conductive Inks,) this is a “something thing.” If it’s admiring them for their dancing which have been proven, through the scientific method by studying different movements, to improve bodily functions and general health then this is a“something thing.” Admiring them for being posh, beautiful, stylish, famous, having a good voice, or acting really well is something that should be examined.

Let's examine being posh. You speak a certain way, you act a certain way this is a testament of class in your culture. In Japan, slurping is considered polite. It’s also an indication that the food is good. Filipinos, Cambodians, Koreans, Egyptians and Thai will all think that they didn’t provide you enough food if you finish your whole plate of food. India, Turkey and some Middle Eastern countries and even in parts of China it is considered good manners to burp after a meal. It’s a sign of appreciation and satiety. All these values are cultural, so if you are doing things just to appear a certain way. This is a, you guessed it! A ”nothing thing.”

Everywhere you walk in China it is normal for the people to spit on the road with no regard. If you are spitting because you have a flu and this has caused your sinuses to clog, in order to relieve yourself you spit out the mucous, this of course can contribute to spreading a virus, a “nothing thing.” If you speak in an accent so people can understand you better, which will help improve communication then this is a”something thing.” Acting a certain way as to relate to a group of people so as to bridge differences between,eg. racial groups, thereby reducing violence between the groups. Then this is a "something thing."

Doing something for the sake of attempting to create an illusion of “one upmanship” is not only a sign of low self esteem but is classed as abhorrent behavior which has been picked up from your environment and no, it's not human nature. (Please see the “human nature vs human behavior” article.)

I play piano and when I sit on my chair to play, it is normally to let my mind travel somewhere else then my daily life. I like the sound of music, I am a big fan of old school jazz bars. I am still able to admit that sitting on a chair for 3 to 4 hours a day, playing or listening to music is not as good as playing music to help emphasize a movie that has a content which can be classed as a “something thing.”

We are living in a time that most people are trying to get away from the horror of their own life’s. No matter the problems big or small, stress is present in the majority of people. As the system creates more inequality, not providing efficient health care, continuously causing extremism through wars, promoting nationalism and stupefying society as a whole, we will seek quick fixes to reduce our own personal stress. We are victims of our own environment and we follow established lines. Lines that have been hardwired into us by previous generations. The methods of the past are not always the best, they are most of the time outdated. We have the knowledge and the technical capability to get rid of most”nothing things.”
